1. Warm-up (5 min)

💬 Talk about cafés:

• Do you like cafés?
• What do you usually drink in a café?
• Who do you go with?

2. Grammar Focus – “I’d like” = “I would like”

👉 “I’d like” is a polite way to say “I want”. We use it when ordering or asking for something.

➡️ I’d like + noun / I’d like + to + verb

→ I’d like a coffee, please. (= I want a coffee.)

→ I’d like to pay, please. (= I want to pay.)

→ Would you like a coffee?

→ Would you like to eat here or take away?

→ Yes, please. / No, thank you.

→ I’d like a tea, please.

Dialogue 1 – Coffee to Go

Waiter: Hello! What would you like?

Customer: I’d like a cappuccino, please.

Waiter: Anything else?

Customer: No, that’s all, thank you.

Waiter: To drink here or take away?

Customer: To take away, please.

Waiter: That’s two euros, please.

Customer: Here you are.

Waiter: Thank you! Have a nice day.

Customer: Thanks, you too!

🍰 Dialogue 2 – Eating at the Café

Waiter: Good afternoon! What can I get for you?

Customer: I’d like a cup of tea and a piece of chocolate cake, please.

Waiter: Anything else?

Customer: Yes, I’d also like a glass of water.

Waiter: Sure. To eat in or take away?

Customer: To eat in, please.

Waiter: That’s five euros and eighty cents.

Customer: Can I pay by card?

Waiter: Of course.

💳 Dialogue 3 – Paying After Eating

Waiter: Hello! Was everything okay?

Customer: Yes, thank you, it was delicious. I’d like to pay, please.

Waiter: Sure. That’s eight euros and sixty cents.

Customer: Can I pay in cash?

Waiter: Yes, no problem.

Customer: Here you are.

Waiter: Thank you! Would you like a receipt?

Customer: No, thank you. Keep the change.

Waiter: Thank you very much! Have a nice day.

Customer: You too! Goodbye.

5. Breakout Room Speaking (15–20 min)

🗣️ Task:
Work in pairs or small groups.
1. Take turns being the waiter and the customer.
2. Practise all three dialogues from the lesson.
3. Then create your own café conversations – try to order different things (coffee, tea, cake, sandwich, to go, eat in, paying by card, etc.).
4. Use as many café phrases as possible.

💡 Goal: Speak naturally and use “I’d like…” and “Would you like…?” correctly.
