Questions and Answers

Q: Do you like spending your summer days by the lake? Why? Why not?
A: Yes, I like spending summer days by the lake. I enjoy sunbathing, swimming in the cold water, gently swinging on the waves, and collecting nice rocks. The heat is more manageable when you spend time by the lake.

Q: Did you have the chance to try some watersports?
A: I have tried rafting, kayaking, paddleboarding, and also freediving. Paddleboarding and kayaking are really relaxing and peaceful. Freediving is great but also scary at the same time. You never know what is swimming around you in the water.

Q: Which of the lakes in your area do you like the most?
A: Čierna Voda is a nice lake with clear blue water. The best time to visit is in the morning when nobody is there. I also started visiting Guláška near Senec, and it quickly became my favourite. Yes, access to the water is more difficult, but the lake is quieter than Čierna Voda.

Q: Did you visit any lakes outside of Slovakia?
A: I did! I visited Lake Bled, Lake Jasna, and Lake Bohinj in Slovenia. Each of them is unique in its own way. I also saw Lake Ontario. That lake is huge and cold. I felt like I was looking at the sea, not a lake. I was also afraid to swim there because of the big fish.

Q: Have you tried any fun watersports at one of the lakes?
A: Not on lakes, but I tried rafting on one of Slovenia’s rivers. The river had natural slides and a strong current. We struggled a lot to get through some difficult spots. It was challenging and fun. I was sore for a week.

Q: What do you think about Ali’s approach to Laurence’s trauma?
A: Ali managed it quite well. She was not pushy and she took time to get him used to the water again. It was also helpful that Laurence was eager to overcome his fear.

Q: Would you be excited if one of your friends took you with them to learn a new watersport?
A: I would be a little apprehensive at first, but I think we would have a great time together. It would be even better if I could choose the watersport. But just spending time with one of my good friends would be enough.

Q: Are there any watersports you would like to try in the future?
A: Surfing is something I would like to try, even though it is a bit dangerous and I am afraid of sharks. But the feeling of riding the waves must be amazing.

Q: Can you swim? How did you learn to swim? Do you have nice memories of your first swimming lessons?
A: Yes, my grandma taught me. She grabbed me and threw me into the swimming pool a few times. I was determined not to sink to the bottom of the pool, but she took me out of the water when she saw me struggling. It was nice that she didn’t let me drown.

Q: Did you see anything interesting or unusual when visiting a lake, river, or sea?
A: I once saw some people surfing with their dogs in the sea, which was unusual but actually lovely. I also saw a duck disappear under the water—I think something ate it…
